Particle Haze IPA by Divine Science Brewing

Gluten Free Hazy IPA

Brand new review coming in hot for the Divine Science Brewing Particle Haze IPA! This triple dry hopped hazy is now brewed in a dedicated gluten free facility in Southern California. In fact, they just opened a taproom that I am dying to visit.

The Particle Haze IPA is brewed on a base of millet, rice, buckwheat, and lentils. It features Mandarin Bavaria, Nelson Sauvin, Chinook, and Cashmere hops. This beer is named after a female scientist who smashed sub-atomic particles together to observe their reactions, so Divine Science Brewing was inspired to do the same thing with hops and malt! Anyone who has ever brewed or baked gluten free knows all too well, that it is a very special science in itself.

This 100% gluten free Particle Haze IPA is packaged in 16 ounce cans and displays a big-haired red-headed goddess doing hop magic on the label. So…pretty in line with Divine Science’s style. Below you will find a video of the beer’s pour, and below that you’ll find my review of this hazy IPA.

The Taste Test

Particle Haze IPA

This beer is gorgeous. It pours with a juicy citrus color, with lots of haze and lots of head. The head fades slowly and the ascending bubbles give this hazy IPA a champagne-like appearance at the surface. The nose is packed with fruity hops, and I’m picking up some pineapple and mango in the aroma.

The heavy aroma and juicy appearance have me expecting a super fruity brew, but the taste reflects more of a classic haze character. The Particle Haze is actually lighter on the palate than it pours in the glass. Most of the flavor profile builds later in the tasting experience, and the hops are pleasant and not overpowering.

When the Particle Haze hits my palate, I notice a bright and clean melon-like taste with gentle carbonation. By mid-palate, the hops kick in to gear and there’s a moderate dryness and complete absence of sweetness. The back of the tongue enjoys a bit more of the fruity character with a tangerine-like finish.

I think what I like most about the Particle Haze IPA is the body and texture. It has a medium-light body and the carbonation is absolutely perfect in my opinion. Perhaps it’s the hazy body that gives the carbonation it’s extremely fine texture, perfectly supporting the delicate fruit flavors through the tasting. This gluten free hazy IPA is on the drier side of the spectrum, but not so dry that it makes you thirsty.

Divine Science Brewing Particle Haze Hazy IPA

Overall, the dry juicy nature of this hazy makes it incredibly refreshing for an IPA. The millet, rice, buckwheat, and lentils offer a really nice backbone to the triple dry hop character, and the beer manages to be incredibly balanced on the palate. The bitterness does linger on the tongue, but it’s gentle and it doesn’t dominate the subtle fruit flavors.

The Particle Haze IPA is an excellent addition to the Divine Science Brewing lineup, and I’m so excited that they now brew in a dedicated gluten free brewery! So if you’re ever in Southern California, better add them to your wishlist for a taproom visit.
