G’s Hard Ginger Beer – Stormy

Ginger Beer with Ginger, Lemon, Lime, Orange, & Molasses

This is my second review of G’s Hard Ginger Beer. My first was for their Original flavor. This one is for the Stormy Ginger Beer. These ginger beers are gluten free, organic, and vegan. The Stormy flavor includes ginger, lemon, lime, orange, and molasses.

These gluten free ginger beers are brewed in Saint Helena, California and contain no residual or added sugar, and absolutely no artificial sweeteners, colors, flavors or additives. There are currently 5 flavors and I’m not sure if they’re sold in mix-packs or individually. (Feel free to comment if you know!)

They are packaged in 16 ounce cans and the Stormy has 129 calories per can and a 5% ABV. The thing I liked most about the Original flavor was how dry it was! It’s literally the driest ginger beer I’ve ever tasted. Let’s see if the Stormy follows that trend or if their non-originals sweeten up a bit.

Below is a quick pour of the G’s Stormy Ginger Beer. Keep scrolling to read what I thought about it!

The Taste Test

Stormy Ginger Beer

As I begin to pour this beer, I am surprised to see it’s actually a lot darker than their Original flavor. In fact, it looks like a standard beer with its dark color and short lived head! The head is–what’s the word…energetic! SO LOUD and fizzy too. But it doesn’t last long, which you can see in the pour video above.

The Stormy Ginger Beer has a burnt orange color and a pretty hazy appearance. I detect a lot of citrus in the aroma at first, but the most dominant presence on the nose is definitely the ginger.

Just like G’s Original Hard Ginger Beer, this Stormy flavor is JUST as dry as the first one I tried. I thought it would be a bit sweeter because it listed molasses with the citrus and ginger, but it’s faint enough not to present sweet—it just smooths out the intensity of the dryness a bit.

The flavor is a lot less gingery than the aroma at first. This is a pretty easy-drinking flavor. The flavors clear your palate completely after each swallow, leaving a crisp dryness behind. And perhaps a bit of heat from the ginger.

When the Stormy Ginger Beer first hits your lips, you’re met with a zippy texture and clean and crisp mouthfeel. As it moves to middle palate you notice a bit of fruity gingerness, and this is where a gentle heat begins to build from the ginger. By swallow, the flavors have faded, but the slight heat remains, building slowly as you make your way through the 16 ounces.

Over time, the ginger shines through more and more intensely, largely due to the lingering heat building upon each former sip. But there’s just enough citrus kick to keep this ginger beer balanced and interesting.

The carbonation is strong and the body is somewhere between light and medium. Overall, this gluten free ginger beer has a very wintery flavor profile. It’s less bright than the Original flavor, presenting more as spicy/warm.

The 5% ABV allows for a nice pre-dinner buzz off the first 16 ounce can. So far I’m loving this G’s Hard Ginger Beer brand. I had never heard of them before this year, and I’m glad I know now because I would certainly grab for one of these before ANY cider. Love them so far.
