Aurochs Brewing Amber Ale

Gluten Free Amber Ale

I’m very excited to bring you another gluten free offering from Aurochs Brewing Company in Pennsylvania. Today we’re pouring the gluten free Amber Ale. This amber is brewed in a dedicated gluten free brewery, so no matter the degree of your gluten sensitivity — you should feel great after drinking this beer!

Aurochs Brewing Amber Ale

The Aurochs Amber Ale is brewed with Cascade hops and gluten free malted millet and quinoa. They package all their beers in 12 ounce cans. This gluten free amber ale has a 5.5% ABV and 27 IBU.

I really love Aurochs packaging. Their cans all have a velvety matte feel and I find their two-tone color schemes simple and elegant. Below is the pour video of the Aurochs Brewing Amber Ale. When you make it to the end of the review, you’ll find a handful of reviews for other Aurochs Brewing styles.

The Taste Test

Aurochs Amber Ale

The gluten free Aurochs Amber Ale pours with a brownish-amber orange color and decent head that disappears over a couple minutes. Carbonation looks healthy. Clarity is fairly strong considering dark hue of the beer.

The nose is malty with some caramel and just a touch of fruitiness. The taste is wonderfully toasty and packs a gentle toffee-like sweetness that stays with you through the tasting experience.

The hops are mild and the bitterness is too, which is to be expected from a good classic amber ale. I feel like most of the amber-style beers I taste on the west coast  end up being Amber IPAs…but I would say Aurochs pulls off an authentic amber here where the malt takes centerstage and the hops support quietly from backstage.

The carbonation keeps the beer super refreshing and it’s still pretty bright, despite its medium-bodied malty mouthfeel. The caramel is strong on tongue, it lingers after the swallow, more on the tongue than the throat. You are also left with a heavy roast flavor on the palate throughout the entire tasting of the beer.

As the beer warms, the flavors blend more smoothly and the texture softens. That’s one thing I really like about ambers…they have quite a range of presentation from first crack to final sip. They are very slowly growing on me over time.

I very much enjoy this beer, and also loved the pumpkin ale. It’s the first pumpkin beer I’ve ever gotten to enjoy.
