[Insert squeals of the general public here.] As if this wasn’t (enough) music to your Celiac ears, Holidaily Brewing Company took things one step further…
Holidaily Brewing is a dedicated gluten free brewery in Golden, Colorado. They recently released a celebratory gluten free Oreo Cookie Stout to celebrate their 5th anniversary. This special release stout was brewed with 65 packages of gluten free Oreo cookies, which equates to over 35 pounds of Oreos!
The Oreo Stout also utilizes 10 different gluten free malts, whole vanilla beans, and cacao nibs. It finishes at 6.8% ABV and is/was sold in crowlers out of Holidaily’s Colorado taproom. The world of gluten free pastry stouts has really opened up for us the past few years. Holidaily has been known to brew brownie stouts in the past too.

The Taste Test
Gluten Free Oreo Stout
The gluten free Oreo Stout pours with a jet black color and an enormous head. The head was so strong I had to let the beer sit for a few minutes so the foam could chill mid-beer pour. In fact, the dark cookie black and creamy white head actually resemble the coloring of an oreo cookie!
Honestly, I’m both shocked and impressed with how well this stout stayed carbonated after being canned in a crowler, shipped across the country, chilled, and opened over a week later! The head last forever too.
The beer looks thick. It doesn’t let any light through until you hold it up directly to a bright light. Even then, it only reveals the slightest tinge of red. I don’t quite know how to put into words how beautiful this beer is. The photos and video will have to do the talking for me! 😍
Now that the head has finally gone down (it seriously took 15 minutes!) I can finally give it a good whiff. This gluten free Oreo Cookie Stout smells of roasted coffee and marshmallow. I’m expecting a good amount of bitterness too.
The flavors of this stout very much mimic that of an oreo cookie! There’s some sweetness, but not an overwhelming amount. It also has the silkiest mouthfeel and a fairly mild bitterness (slightly surprised about that). The body is full but somehow not too heavy, which is a blessing since I fully plan to finish this crowler myself. 😜
When this gluten free stout first hits your lips the first thing you detect is the beer’s texture! It’s velvety smooth and the carbonation doesn’t hit until mid-palate. The flavor transforms to more coffee and roast by the end of the palate and then it leaves a pleasant and gentle bitterness in the throat.
The only thing better than the appearance of this Oreo Stout is it’s taste. It’s absolutely epic. I wouldn’t expect any less from Holidaily Brewing though. Damn, they do a good job…
My only regret is that I didn’t go out and buy a package of gluten free oreos to eat alongside it! Guys. Seriously. If Holidaily has any of this left, get your Colorado friends to go down and fill you a crowler immediately. I recommend FedEx or UPS for shipping. It’ll be worth it.
